Sony Is Developing New Display Tech?

Multiple sources are reporting that Sony is working on a new display technology for future Alpha cameras expected sometime after Q3 2026. The reports mention Sony developing a FSC-LCD (Field Sequential Colour LCD) system, which could dramatically reduce power consumption while also improving live-view performance and refresh rates.
Unlike traditional LCD panels that use separate red, green, and blue colour filters, FSC-LCD technology uses a high-transmittance grayscale LCD panel combined with an RGB Mini-LED backlight system. Instead of displaying all colours simultaneously through fixed filters, the backlight rapidly cycles between red, green, and blue illumination at extremely high speed. The reports claim the RGB LEDs switch on and off around 720 times per second, producing a final combined colour image with an effective 240Hz refresh rate on a grayscale 720Hz IPS LTPS LCD panel. One of the biggest advantages here is efficiency, since removing traditional RGB colour filters allows more light to pass through the panel while using less power overall. Some reports suggest the system could reduce energy consumption by around 70% compared to conventional LCD displays.
The technology itself is not exclusive to Sony either. FSC-LCD development is also reportedly being explored by companies including TCL and Hisense, particularly for future TV displays. TCL already showed a prototype FSC-LCD television with RGB LED backlighting back in 2025. Sources also claim Sony’s BRAVIA TV business could form a joint venture with TCL, which may help accelerate development of the technology across different product categories.
Godox’s New Mini Lights

Godox just announced two new mini lights, the ML40Bi and ML40R. Both models are pretty small, roughly palm-sized, and come with integrated batteries. One of the more interesting additions is the new ML-L10 lens reflector, which mounts to the front of the lights and concentrates the beam into a much tighter output. According to Godox, the reflector boosts brightness by up to 24x on the ML40Bi and 16x on the ML40R compared to using the lights without it.
The ML40Bi is the bi-colour version with a colour temperature range of 2,800K to 6,500K, while the ML40R adds RGB support and expands the range to 1,800K to 10,000K. Godox lists CRI and TLCI values around 95–96 for both models. The lights measure 97×46×91mm and weigh around 422 grams without the reflector attached. Controls are available directly on the units or through the Godox Light app, which supports NFC pairing and Bluetooth control up to around 30 meters away. Both lights also use a magnetic mounting system that allows them to attach directly to metal surfaces.
Speaking of mounting, the ML40 series uses the smaller Godox Mount system instead of a standard Bowens mount, so the lights are mainly designed around compact modifiers and smaller accessories. In practice, they seem better suited for directional lighting, accent work, product shots, or lightweight video setups rather than larger studio-style lighting configurations. Godox rates battery life at around 42 minutes at full power, although the lights can still run while charging over USB-C. Pricing is set at at $130 for the ML40Bi and $160 for the ML40R, with the ML-L10 reflector included.

What Is Time Stacking Photography?
Time stacking is what happens when you take a bunch of photos of the same scene over a period of time and then combine them later into one single photo/end result. It is very similar to long exposure, however instead of leaving your shutter open for a few minutes or hours, you take hundreds of quick shots and “stack” them together afterward.
How It Works
This is the basic idea, laid out chronologically:
You set your camera on a tripod and shoot a time-lapse, one frame every few seconds or minutes.
Later, you take all those photos and blend them together.
The stacking merges the changes from each image (common subjects are clouds but also stars) into one composite photo that looks like a long exposure just a bit more surreal and ‘painterly.’
What You Need
A camera that can shoot in manual mode.
A tripod (absolutely essential).
An intervalometer or built-in time-lapse mode to automatically take shots over time.
Editing software with a stacking program/feature —> Photoshop, StarStaX etc.
Setting Up Your Shot
Make sure to lock your set up down. The camera should not move at all between shots, definitely use a solid tripod and turn off image stabilisation.
Manual mode is a must. Exposure, focus, and white balance —> keep it consistent. Any change between shots will cause flicker or ghosting.
Pick a subject that works for this. Time stacking works best when something in your scene is changing ‘slowly’ → clouds, stars, water, are the most popular choices.
Shoot more than you think! You will usually need at least 50–200 photos, sometimes way more. If you are going for stars, it might be 500+ photos.
Good starting settings (for daytime clouds, like I mentioned, one of the most popular subjects for this technique): ISO 100, Aperture f/8, Shutter around 1/100s, one photo every 3–5 seconds for about 15–30 minutes
The Stacking Part
Once you have your shots, here is how to edit them:
Load your photos into Photoshop or StarStaX
Set your layer blending mode to Lighten, this keeps the brightest parts from each frame, which is what makes trails and streaks appear.
Merge or flatten once you are happy with the result.
Lastly, adjust colour, contrast etc. + clean up any weird spots/transitions
Keep in mind → how many of your photos you end up blending will give you a different look → fewer photos for bit of motion or a lot/all of them for the complete blended surreal look (as you can see in photo number 2 up top for example).
Classic subjects/shooting Ideas
Cloud trails → they smear across the sky, which ends up looking very painterly.
Star trails, another classic.
Sunset blending, also popular —> shoot every few minutes of the sunset to show the full colour change.
Tips That Help
Always shoot in RAW (always shoot in RAW anyways ;)) so you have flexibility when editing.
Try to avoid windy days if your tripod is not like rock solid, even a bit of movement can ruin the stack.
Use manual white balance so the colours do not change between pictures.
