OM System 17mm f/1.8 II and 25mm f/1.8 II Update

cc: OM System

OM Digital Solutions has given its classic 17mm f/1.8 and 25mm f/1.8 lenses a fresh update. The new “mark II” versions keep the same optics but now have a sturdier metal build and weather sealing, making them more durable for real-world shooting. They’re still lightweight and compact, perfect for pairing with the new OM System OM-3.

One notable change? The 17mm f/1.8 II no longer has the manual focus clutch, so you’ll have to switch focus modes on the camera instead. Some might miss it, but in return, both lenses feel more premium and still deliver sharp images with OM System’s ZERO coating to cut down on flare. The 17mm is a solid everyday lens with a 35mm equivalent view, while the 25mm is a classic “nifty fifty” for Micro Four Thirds shooters.

Both lenses drop by the end of February, priced at $549.99 for the 17mm and $499.99 for the 25mm.

Some Film Photography Drama

cc: Lucky Film

Lucky Film is bringing back colour negative film, and other distributors are hyped—but also kind of confused. Lucky Film has been around for a long time, making consumer film and photo paper, but they’ve mostly stayed out of the spotlight since digital cameras took over. Now, with film photography making a comeback, they’ve restarted production and are working on an ISO 200 colour film for 35mm cameras. However there’s no official release date yet.

Meanwhile, a new Lucky Film website has popped up, claiming to be the official distributor in the U.S. and Europe. But a distributor in Taiwan, Shane Chen, is calling it fake, insisting his company is the real global distributor. Lucky Film itself is pushing back, accusing Chen of spreading misinformation and trying to control the narrative.

Bottom line: a new, affordable colour film is coming, but expect some chaos before it hits shelves.
