Thypoch’s Upcoming Voyager 24-50mm f/2.8

credits: Thypoch
Thypoch is starting to reveal more about its upcoming Voyager 24–50mm f/2.8, ahead of its official announcement on May 14. It is one of the company’s first autofocus zoom lenses, and from the specs so far, it looks pretty decent.
On the technical side, the lens covers a 24–50mm focal range with a constant f/2.8 aperture, giving a field of view between 83° and 47°. The optical design uses 16 elements in 13 groups, which is fairly complex for a lens like this and suggests an effort to keep image quality consistent across the zoom range. It also features a 10-blade diaphragm and stops down to f/22. The minimum focusing distance is 0.3 meters, with a maximum magnification of 0.216x, so it can handle closer shots, though it is not really intended for macro use.
In terms of size, the lens comes in at 92.8 × 70 mm and weighs around 450 grams, with a 67mm filter thread. It uses an autofocus system, although there is still no information on the type of motor being used. It will be available for Sony E, Nikon Z, and Leica L mounts, with an expected price of around $700. Thypoch is also planning to expand further into autofocus lenses, with five additional models reportedly in development.
Sigma Releases New Lens Firmware Update

credits: Sigma
Sigma just rolled out a firmware update for eight of its lenses, and it brings some fairly practical changes. The main addition is the ability to reassign the manual focus ring when the lens is set to autofocus. Normally, that ring just sits unused in AF mode, but now it can be mapped to things like aperture, shutter speed, ISO, exposure compensation, white balance, or even autofocus mode.
There is also an option to reverse the focus ring direction in manual focus, which can help if you are used to a different system. On top of that, Sigma added the option to display T-stops instead of f-stops in video, which is more relevant for exposure consistency since T-stops account for actual light transmission.
The update applies to eight lenses, including the 20mm f/2 DG DN, 24mm f/1.4 DG DN Art, 35mm f/1.4 DG DN Art, 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art, and the 500mm f/5.6 DG DN OS Sports, among others. It is available now as a free download and can be installed either through a compatible camera body or via Sigma’s USB Dock. Strangely, Sigma has not specified exactly which cameras support the new features, only that they require compatible L-mount models.
