Nikon’s New Camera Could Shake Things Up

credits: Nikon
Nikon is about to drop the Z5 II, and it could be a big deal for anyone thinking about switching to Nikon’s mirrorless system. The original Z5 was super popular because it was the cheapest full-frame mirrorless camera around—great for APS-C users looking to upgrade or DSLR shooters making the jump to mirrorless. It had a solid 24.5MP sensor, in-body stabilisation, and dual card slots, which is pretty rare at its price.
The Z5 II is expected to keep that same great value but with a few nice upgrades. Rumors suggest it’ll get a fully articulating screen, a quick-access Picture Controls button, and—hopefully—uncropped 4K video (because that 1.7x crop on the original was rough). A faster burst mode would be nice too.
Nikon is planning to announce it in April. They might throw in some surprises, but honestly, the key here is keeping the price competitive. Budget-friendly full-frame cameras are a big deal right now, and the Z5 II could be another win for Nikon alongside the Zf and Z6 III.
SmallRig’s New Cooling Fan

credits: SmallRig
SmallRig just launched a $60 cooling fan for Canon’s EOS R5 and R5 II, aiming to keep things cool and let you record longer. It snaps onto the back of the camera and uses a 7,000 RPM fan with TEC cooling tech to push more air through.
Overheating was a big issue with the original R5, and while the R5 II is way better, it still has limits—especially in 8K. SmallRig says their fan more than doubles 8K/30p recording time at normal temps and boosts it by 30% in extreme heat (104°F/40°C).
Installation is super simple—just move the screen and snap it on. The fan is lightweight, low-noise, and even removable, so if you use multiple cameras, you can swap it with extra mounts. The only catch? It needs an external power source, like a V-mount battery.
