The Latest News:

Sony Camera’s Direct Image Transfer Update

cc: Sony

Sony just dropped a big update for its Creators’ Cloud platform and app, making it easier for photographers and videographers to manage their content. The biggest change? You can now automatically upload images and videos straight from certain Sony cameras to Google Drive or Adobe Lightroom—no extra steps needed.

The update also improves smartphone transfers with a new "differential transfer" setting, so only new files get sent, saving time and data. Plus, Sony has expanded its cloud storage options: free users get 5GB (25GB if you own a Sony camera), with premium plans going up to 500GB.

Another major tweak—better remote camera control via the app, making it easier to adjust settings on the fly. The update supports a range of Sony’s latest mirrorless cameras, though some features may require a firmware update (you can see what cameras are compatible on the Creator Cloud Website).

A Tricky Situation for Film-Photographers

cc: Kodak

Kodak is cracking down on film respoolers like Reflx Lab, which has been repackaging its motion picture film for still photography at a lower price. The issue? Some respoolers were buying Kodak’s discounted motion picture film—meant for filmmakers—without disclosing its intended resale use.

Kodak offers lower prices to filmmakers to keep film alive in the industry, but it charges more to those repackaging the stock for still photography. Reflx Lab and similar companies were likely sidestepping this pricing model, undercutting Kodak’s own still film business.

Kodak isn’t banning all respoolers—brands like Cinestill, which openly source film at a premium, can continue. But companies that misrepresented their purchases are being cut off. This decision will frustrate photographers who relied on affordable respooled film, but from Kodak’s perspective, it’s about business ethics and sustaining its product lines.
