Digitise Almost Any Film With Any Camera?

credits: Michael Swift
UK-based analog photographer Michael Swift just launched a simple and affordable film holder, called Myriad, designed to make digitising film way easier. It works with pretty much every roll and cartridge format—110, APS, 126, 135, 127, 120/220, and more—and fits into any setup with a digital camera, macro lens, tripod, and light panel.
Myriad has a three-layer design that keeps film flat, evenly lit, and aligned. The diffuser prevents Newton’s Rings, and the transparent top panel lets you scan the full width of the film, including sprockets and borders. Unlike bulky, light-tight holders, its open design makes it more flexible and cheaper— £99.95 (about $130).
It doesn’t come with a light source, but Swift recommends the Raleno PLV-S192 ($60 on Amazon). Worried about reflections? Just follow basic best practices—keep it away from direct light and use a good light panel.

Fujifilm’s X-M5 Availability Will Improve Soon

credits: Fujifilm
The Fujifilm X-M5 might have had a mixed reception when it launched late last year, but that hasn’t stopped it from flying off the shelves. Four months later, it’s still hard to find, with retailers in Japan halting orders and stores across the worls. struggling to keep up with demand.
So what’s the deal? According to Yuji Igarashi, Fujifilm’s Professional Imaging Group Manager, the company is working hard to catch up and doesn’t expect the backlog to be as bad as the X100VI fiasco. He insists this isn’t some kind of artificial scarcity tactic—the X-M5 is just more popular than expected.
If you’re trying to get your hands on one, there’s some good news. B&H expects the black X-M5 to start shipping next week, with Adorama and Moment predicting April availability. At $899, the X-M5 is one of the best budget friendly cameras out there, and if you’re patient, it shouldn’t be too much longer before stock levels improve.
