Fujifilm X-E5 Officially Announced

credits: Fujifilm
After months of speculations, rumours and leaks, Fujifilm has officially announced the X-E5 â a sleek, rangefinder-style camera that blends the best of the X100 series with some fresh new tricks of its own. With a lightweight body (just under a pound) and an aluminium top plate, itâs clearly designed as an everyday carry camera that doesnât skimp on build quality.
As we already know, the X-E5 keeps the retro charm going with a revamped electronic viewfinder. Itâs got a new âClassicâ display mode that gives you an old-school needle-dial look with red-tinted camera info. You also get a customizable Control Lever (similar to whatâs on the GFX100RF), plus a tilting rear LCD that flips up for selfies or vlogging. Inside, itâs running the same 40.2MP X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor found in Fujifilmâs top-tier models, with the companyâs latest AF tracking, subject detection, and a beefed-up IBIS system offering up to 7 stops of stabilization. It can even shoot 6.2K video if you need it.
Alongside the X-E5, Fujifilm finally delivered something fans have been asking for: a compact pancake lens. The new XF 23mm f/2.8 R WR is basically a swappable version of the X100VIâs lens, designed for the interchangeable X-mount system. Itâs sharp, weather-resistant, and tiny, ideal for keeping things pocketable. You can grab the X-E5 body alone for $1,699.95 or bundled with the 23mm for $1,899.95 when it ships in late summer 2025. The lens on its own will retail for $499.95. A closer look at the new camera and lens will follow in this weekâs Sunday magazine issue ;)
A New Nikon Z8 Firmware Update

credits: Nikon
Nikon is leveling up the Z8 with a major firmware update (version 3.00) and itâs packed with interesting upgrades that push the already powerful camera even further. Most notably, the update adds expanded pixel-shift shooting, including support for combining it with focus-shift and AE bracketing, making the Z8 the first full-frame mirrorless to offer this combo without extra gear. Thatâs big news for macro shooters and anyone chasing ultra-high-res images with better depth and dynamic range.
Other highlights include a new in-camera focus limiter that lets you set custom near/far AF distances, improved autofocus speed and tracking, and flexible color grading options via Custom Picture Controls. You can now fine-tune looks in NX Studio and load them directly into the camera, great for dialing in a specific aesthetic before you even shoot.
Video users also get a boost: N-Log View Assist now has better contrast and detail for more accurate monitoring, and external mic support for voice memos is finally here. Throw in options like 400% zoom, slower shutter modes, improved focus behavior, and even Profoto A10 AF-assist support, and itâs clear Nikon is serious about keeping the Z8 competitive. Firmware 3.00 is expected to drop âvery soonâ, an official release date has not been announced.
