New Viltrox 35mm f/1.2 LAB Coming Soon

credits: Viltrox

Viltrox is gearing up to release what looks like a pretty bold new lens: the 35mm f/1.2 LAB, built for Sony E and Nikon Z mounts. It’s part of their new high-end LAB lineup.

This 35mm prime is designed with resolution in mind. It’s got a complex optical setup (15 elements in 10 groups) including five ED elements, three high refractive ones, and two aspherical lenses. That’s a lot of glass, all aimed at keeping images sharp across the entire frame—even at f/1.2. Autofocus is handled by a new Hyper VCM motor, which Viltrox claims is 1.5x faster and more accurate than the older STM motors. Add in the wide f/1.2 aperture, 11-blade diaphragm for creamy bokeh, and close-focusing capabilities (down to 34cm).

Physically, it’s a tank—around 920g and with a 77mm filter thread. But it’s packed with controls: three physical switches, two customisable Fn buttons, two control rings, and a LCD display, which you can personalise through a Bluetooth-connected app. The display can show shooting info or even custom startup text. No official price yet, the Lens is coming on April 16th.

Canon EOS R III Launching In May?

credits: Canon

Rumours say the EOS R6 Mark III is dropping in May 2025. While nothing’s official yet, specs are already making the rounds. It’ll likely have a 24MP sensor and a new DIGIC Accelerator processor, which should mean faster performance and better image quality all around.

For handheld shooters, it’s expected to offer up to 8.5 stops of image stabilization—great for low light or shaky situations. Video features look serious too: think 6K oversampled 4K, C4K at 120p (with a crop), and even Cinema RAW Light.

There’s talk of a new OLED screen design like Sony’s A7R V, a full-sized HDMI port, and dual card slots (CFexpress + SD). Autofocus might get a bump too, borrowing from the R5 II, and it could shoot RAW at 30fps with fast readout—perfect for action or wildlife.
